Ryan Powers appointed B-R assistant superintendant

Cambridge College Alumni Ryan Powers

Incoming Bridgewater-Raynham Superintendent Derek Swenson said he has a lot of confidence in the person who will fill his shoes as assistant superintendent.

The B-R School Committee voted unanimously Wednesday night to appoint Ryan Powers as the new B-R assistant superintendent, effective Oct. 1.

Swenson said he was very impressed with Powers during the intensive interview process for the post.

“Mr. Powers knocked it out of the park. He’d be an outstanding asset to our district,” Swenson said.

Powers is currently the principal of the Mary E. Baker Elementary School in Brockton.

Swenson will move up from B-R assistant superintendent to superintendent upon the retirement of Superintendent Jacqueline Forbes on Oct. 1.

Powers has a bachelor’s in education from Stonehill College and a master’s in school administration from Cambridge College. He holds a superintendent/assistant superintendent license and has been an assistant principal or principal in the Brockton school system for the past 10 years, Swenson said.

Powers is a Raynham resident.

Forbes said the School Committee has not yet set the salary range for the position and will negotiate the exact salary with Powers.
