Commissioner Santiago Addresses College Community: Serving the Needs of Non-Traditional Students
To a packed room of over 160 Cambridge College students, faculty and staff, Dr. Carlos Santiago, Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education, shared the extraordinary changes occurring across the higher education landscape. He highlighted the enrollment challenges facing Massachusetts colleges and the fierce competition for students from out-of-state colleges. He advised that Massachusetts colleges must ramp up degree production to meet the hiring needs of businesses and local industries. Dr. Santiago also stressed the importance of closing achievement and opportunity gaps to make sure that students from underserved communities and non-traditional-age populations are able to graduate with degrees and certificates of value.
The event was hosted by Dr. Gilda Gely, Provost, Office of Academic Affairs at Cambridge College, in partnership with Mr. Roger Berry of Fullbridge, Inc.
